This morning, the air smelled like you
Elated, I greeted
Thrilled, I looked
To far corners, I searched
But my eyes did not catch you
So real and true
like the blue of the sky
Like green under my feet
It was indeed all you
Even if in whispers and hues
The lingering scent this morning was all you
Firm and filling
My olfactories greeted it through
Straight into the heart it went,
And turned a smile into two
"Stop and hold my hands
Take a minute with me to see this view
So what, in ethers and air I stand
Yes, I am nearer than you think, you fool"
So yes, I stopped and stood
Merrily in the scent that was you
And looked at the scene hung in front
To all the things in bloom
Trumpets in purple, some sunny yellows
Red gulmohars in between the two
White lilies bowering like spiders
Over rushes of greens, none few
But none was as sweet
As piercing and deep
For, forcing through tufts and trees,
your scent hopped and teased
rinsing and wringing, taking over the summer
your scent's sweetness simply leaped.
Trailing, it followed
through the length of the park it tarried
“To hell with your solitude,” in my ears it cued
“Let's take a moment together to simply be.”
With you, my season soared
Not a moment felt sapped
It was indeed all a coup
in essence and skin
But what a lovely morning it made
Because the air smelled like you.
